Space concept on activism, art and science by Svea Duwe in coope­ra­tion with Nilsson Samuelsson.

Since 2021, Nilsson Samuels­son has been arran­ging monumen­tal 1.5° warning signs with 84 white shelves in the public space of Dresden in spring and autumn, as part of the Global Climate Strikes. This princi­ple has additio­nally been borro­wed by various climate activists since then. In addition to the 84 shelves, photo­gra­phic documen­ta­ti­ons of past actions in public space were on display at KRITI­SCHE MASSE, as well as his publi­ca­tion of 46 postcards to the Federal Minis­ter of the Environ­ment: „Dear Svenja“.

Nilsson invited me to develop a spatial instal­la­tion for the Geh8 WERKRaum, which takes up an artis­tic position in dialo­gue with his climate activist commit­ment. I staged Samuelsson’s 84 shelves here as shelves and as a clod-like, chaotic floor covering. In spatial connec­tion with my sculp­tures and Nilsson’s framed documen­ta­ti­ons, the space was trans­for­med into a field of tension between decay and departure.

Raumkon­zept zu Aktivis­mus, Kunst und Wissen­schaft von Svea Duwe in Koope­ra­tion mit Nilsson Samuelsson

Nilsson Samuels­son arran­giert seit 2021 im Frühling und Herbst, im Rahmen der Global Climate Strikes, mit 84 weißen Regal­bö­den monumen­tale 1,5° Mahnzei­chen im öffent­li­chen Raum von Dresden. Dieses Prinzip wird seitdem zusätz­lich von verschie­de­nen Klima­ak­ti­vis­ten gelie­hen. Neben den 84 Regal­bö­den waren bei KRITI­SCHE MASSE fotogra­fi­sche Dokumen­ta­tio­nen von vergan­ge­nen Aktio­nen im öffent­li­chen Raum zu sehen, sowie seine Publi­ka­ti­on­von 46 Postkar­ten an die Bundes­um­welt­mi­nis­te­rin: „Liebe Svenja“.

Nilsson lud mich ein für den Geh8 WERKRaum eine Raumin­stal­la­tion zu entwi­ckeln, die im Dialog mit seinem klima­ak­ti­vis­ti­schen Engage­ment eine künstlerische Position einnimmt. Samuels­sons 84 Regal­bret­ter insze­nierte ich hier als Regale und als schol­len­ar­ti­gen, chaoti­schen Boden­be­lag. In räumli­cher Verbin­dung mit meinen Skulp­tu­ren und Nilssons gerahm­ten Dokumen­ta­tio­nen verwan­delte sich der Raum zu einem Spannungs­feld zwischen Zerfall und Aufbruch.
